Functional Requirements: Field Barrier System Control


Description: This equipment package includes the field equipment that controls barrier systems used to control access to transportation facilities and infrastructure. Barrier systems include automatic or remotely controlled gates, barriers and other access control systems.
Functional Requirements:
  1. The field element shall activate barrier systems for transportation facilities and infrastructure under center control. Barrier systems include automated or remotely controlled gates, barriers and other systems that manage entry to roadways.
  2. The field element shall return barrier system operational status to the controlling center.
  3. The field element shall return barrier system fault data to the maintenance center for repair.
  4. The field element shall receive requests for access from approaching vehicles using field-vehicle communications and validate and authenticate the requests.
  5. The field element shall grant access only to qualified vehicles.
  6. The field element shall communicate access permission status and access instructions to approaching vehicles using field-vehicle communications.

The Hawaiian language uses two diacritical markings. The 'okina is a glottal stop; and the kahako is a macron. The State of Hawaii strongly encourages the use of Hawaiian diacritical markings. The National ITS Architecture tool, Turbo Architecture, does not allow for the Hawaiian diacritical markings to be input and as such, customized service package diagrams, operational concepts and other outputs from Turbo are unable to reflect the diacritical markings. To ensure consistency in this ITS Architecture website, no Hawaiian diacritical markings will be used.
